Igor Wander Centeno Normando, born on 29 July, 1987, in Belém, Pará, is the current mayor of the state capital. He began his political trajectory at the age of 15 as a leader in UMES (Municipal Union of Secondary Students) and UNE (National Union of Students). He was elected City Councillor of Belém in 2012 and re-elected in 2016, standing out for his advocacy on youth issues, education, and animal protection. In 2018, he became a State Deputy, was re-elected in 2022, and between 2023 and 2024 served as Pará’s Secretary of State for Citizenship.
In 2024, he was elected Mayor of Belém in the second round with 56.36% of the valid votes, taking office in January 2025 as the youngest mayor in the city’s history. His administration focuses on modernising public services, digital inclusion, addressing flooding, and strengthening health and education. He also chairs the Amazonian Cities Committee of the FNP (National Front of Mayors), expanding his role in advocating for Amazon-region municipalities at the national level.
