
Eric A.P. Steegers (1961) is professor and chair of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. His translational research interests include (a) the etiology of adverse pregnancy outcome in relation to suboptimal embryogenesis and first trimester placentation, and (b) maternal cardiovascular health after complicated pregnancies. He leads innovative local and national programs of renewed risk selection and intervention both before (preconception care) and in early pregnancy. Medical and social domains are integrated in collaboration with local and national governments with particular focus on vulnerable families in deprived districts.
