About Ana

Ana Balsa is Professor of Economics at the University of Montevideo and editor of the Journal of Health Economics. Her areas of research include health economics, the economics of human capital, and the economics of education. She has a PhD in Economics from Boston University, MA and a degree in Economics from the Universidad de la República, Uruguay.

Ana is member of the executive committee of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA), founder and co-organiser of the LACEA Health Economics Network, founder and convener of the Virtual International Seminar on the Economics of Risky Health Behaviors (VERB), and member of the Board of Directors of the Research Institute for Development, Growth and Economics (RIDGE). In 2023 she was the Scientific Chair of the IHEA World Congress at Cape Town and was part of the IHEA Board of Directors between 2016 and 2019.
