About Raquel

Governor Raquel Lyra (45) is the first elected woman to head the State Executive branch of Pernambuco, Brazil. She has a law degree from the Federal University of Pernambuco and is the mother of two boys, João and Fernando. Before she was elected State Governor, by popular vote, she was approved by public selection for the Banco do Nordeste (Northeast Bank) and the Federal Police. Since 2005, also by public selection, she has been a State attorney. Raquel Lyra was also a State deputy twice, and Prefect of Caruaru for two mandates, whose management she left in April of 2022 with around 70% of popular approval. Nowadays she is the State President and national Vice-president of the Brazilian Social Democratic Party (PSDB).
